Several Things

First, my apologies that I did not post a list of Bend Pickleball Club winners in the recent Thousand Trails tournament beyond the first day. I know that several other teams and individuals from the club DID win medals...I can think of Bruce, Les, Mike and Corey, Dennis and Sue among others...but I have not yet seen the official list from Dee Turner and will send out the complete list as soon as I see it. Congrats to all of you, good going, and you made us all proud!

1.  Open Play, all levels, continues this week at Summit High School both Tuesday and Thursday from 9 - 11 AM. We aren't sure about Saturday (it's being negotiated) and our contract does run out with Summit after the end of August anyway due to kids coming back (and them not wanting us there with kids on campus). So we are looking at other options and will advise you about that soon. Of course play continues as usual at the Senior Center as well.

2.  The Club Meeting is this coming Thursday evening, at the Senior Center, from 6-8 PM. This is election night...we have at least three candidates who will be presented; one for Treasurer (Christie Gestvag), one for VP (Les Scott), and one for Secretary (Ann Reynolds). If you have other candidates you wish to present, there is still time; please email back to this email with your candidate, which office they would run for for a two-year term, and what their qualifications might be. The only real requirement is that they KNOW they are being put forth as a candidate. We still need a candidate for President to replace me (A.J.). I will continue for awhile if there is no candidate brought forward. The board would like the President to be a full-time resident so if you have a candidate who is full-time in Bend, please advise.

3.  There will be informatin at the General Meeting about the work of the site selection committee which has been working hard to identify the location where we will attempt to build at least eight courts in the relatively near future, depending on funding and other variables. Please come and contribute your comments re the results of the commiottee which will be presented then.

4.  AND....congrats to all on their great play and participation at Thousand Trails this last week...that was a great tournament, and I was proud of all of you who played and noticed how well you all did. Way to go to Dee Turner for her best tournament so far there, and way to go to all of you who helped, played or cheered!

So far, so GREAT!

The 6th Pickleball Mania is in full swing at Thousand Trails in SunRiver. The very painful resurfacing of the two old rats of tennis courts was very successfully accomplished, turning a most mediocre tennis facility into a most modern pickleball haven with eight excellent courts. Registration was way up to almost 100 participants and so far everyone seems to be having a great time. Bend Pickleball has comported itself very well thus far having had many winners through end of day Tuesday with more surely to come. As of Tuesday, which completed the men's and women's singles and men's and women's doubles, we had the following club members win medals...(I apologize if I missed anybody here!)...

Jamie Filiei and Viki Perkett  won Bronze in Intermediate Womens Doubles
Karen Fellows and Susie Dougan won Silver in Intermediate Womens Doubles
Jeannne Branin  won Gold in Intermediate Womens Doubles

Irene Fraties won Bronze in Advanced Womens Doubles
Ann Reynolds won Silver in Advanced Womens Doubles

Dennis Branin won Silver in Intermediate Mens Doubles
Les Scott and Bruce Schafer won Gold in Intermediate in Mens Doubles
Lee Moore won Bronze in Advanced in Mens Doubles

Congratulations and we have hopes of even more wins in the Mixed events to be held Wednesday and Thursday!

About the Tournament Raffle.....

(Editor's Note: The following is an important message to all club members regarding the upcoming raffle which will be held during the First Annual Bend Pickleball Tournament August 3-5, 2012. It is from Roger Fellows, Raffle Chairman)

Fellow Members:

It is not unusual to see raffles at Pickleball Tournaments.  In fact, clubs use this fund raising strategy to raise monies for club operations or capital projects. Typically club members are asked to seek out donated items from local business. This has not been a popular task from the club members' perspective. To simplify the process we are asking club members to donate either a decent bottle of Oregon wine, or a six-pack of micro-brew beer from one of our local breweries, along with a pilsner glass from the same brewery. We are looking for a total of 18 raffle items, which will consist of 9 bottles of wine and 9 six-packs/pilsner glass, 6 items for each day. These items can be delivered to our next club meeting, scheduled for July 26. If you prefer, you can donate $10-$15 and we will do the shopping for you. Please label your donations with your name, so you we can recognize your donation at the raffle desk.

In addition, we are looking for 3 volunteers per day to assist with the raffle during the tournament. You can work one day, two days, or all three days. This will include setting up the table, setting up the raffle items, selling the raffle tickets, and drawing for the winners. The raffle will run from 7:30am to 1:00 pm each day. This is an easy and fun task. Believe me, it is a simple process to sell tickets for the chance to win a bottle of fine wine, or local beer. Bring a friend along to help out, and enjoy the day.
Please reply to  as soon as possible if you would like to make a donation to support your club, and/or you are able to assist with the raffle during the tournament.
Thank you,

Roger Fellows
Raffle Chairman
