Some of the many picklers who attended the meeting at the Senior Center May 22, 2012. Thanks for coming, gang! The next regular meeting of the Bend Pickleball Club will also be at the Senior Center on  June 21, 2012 from 6-8 PM.

We are Growing, and We Need You

The pickleball community is growing fast in Bend, and the Bend Pickleball Club is growing just as quickly. As we grow, it creates many opportunities for us all to give back to the sport we love. In fact, it is becoming more and more necessary to have more participation from the pickleball community to help in the wide number of things we have planned for the summer. The following isn't an inclusive list...but if you feel you can see yourself helping in one of these areas, please email us and let us know. We really appreciate it, and you!
1.  For the August tournament volunteers are needed to Referee (training will be provided), Line Judge, help with Food Service, Court Set-up, Clean-up, Registration, Check-in and in other areas. If you like tournaments, you'll love helping!
2.  Set-up teams are needed for EACH open play session, starting in June. This task usually means partially striping a court with painters' tape, putting up temporary nets, and taking it all down after each session. Ideally a team of four people would set up only one day a week. Can you help one morning a week doing set-up?
3.  We need a leader for the Set-up teams! If you're an organizer, let us know!
4.   Because of Bend Parks and Recreation's willingness to work with us to develop a larger number of pickleball courts somewhere in Bend, we need to examine the possibility of raising funds to help this effort. Do you have experience in fund-raising? Grant-writing? Are you willing to learn? We need your help!
5.  Is someone in the group interested in being on the board of the Bend Pickleball Club? We will have vacancies this year and will need volunteers to fill these vacancies. If you want to help the club move forward, this is your chance! This is especially true if you are full-time Bend resident as the pickleball needs of the Club will go all year! (Snowbirds are also welcome, however!)

We would like to have the largest number of volunteers possible so that nobody feels overworked but the increasing number of opportunities get addressed. Please help!

It's a New Season!

Let's all greet the new pickleball season in Bend and the surrounding areas! A lot is happening and we will be letting you know as things develop. Stand by for the following:

1.  An open meeting for all pickleball players will be held May 22nd at 6 PM at the Bend Senior Center. A variety of things will be discussed there, including  a review of places to play in the area, potential new facilities on the horizon, upcoming tournaments in the area and much more. Representatives of the Bend Parks and Recreation department may be available to discuss their pickleball plans for the future. This meeting will be lead by officers of the Bend Pickleball Club but it is not a Bend Pickleball Club meeting. Nonethless people interested in the club are welcome to stay after the meeting to learn more about the club or ask questions.
2.  The First Annual Bend Open Pickleball Tournament (a USAPA tier-four sanctioned tournament) will be held August 3-5 at Juniper Park in Bend. Check the for more details or follow this site as registration forms and more details will be available here, soon. You are very welcome to play in this tournament no matter where you live, what your age, or whatever your skill level. If you are unsure of your skill level, check skill-level definitions.
3.  The first Bend Pickleball Club meeting of the season will be held June 21st at 6 PM at the Bend Senior Center. If we have new candidates for office on the Bend Pickleball Club board they will be introduced at that time and a vote will be held. More on this as we get closer.

Much more to come, and soon!
