Correction to Pickleball Mania tournament dates...

Just checked and noticed that Thousand Trails has reduced the number of days of the tournament from July 16-20 or July 16-21 (depending on who you earlier talked to) to this:

July 19-21.

The link to the tournament registration form is:

Update on Bend/Sun River tournament, July 16-21

BTW, if you do wish to receive information about the Bend pickleball scene, please give me your current contact information...e.g. telephone number, address if you want me to have it, other that you think is pertainent. We will have quite a bit to say about the emerging Bend pickleball scene over the next couple of weeks, I believe. You can always send me your contact information directly to my email account...  ajfraties@gmail.com

A note that I should share now....I have mentioned before that I was concerned about the quality of the courts at the Thousand Trails park in Sun River where the annual Bend pickleball tournament is played. We have an interest in expanding that tournament and, perhaps over the next year, making it a true USAPA-sanctioned event. However before doing that I wanted to insure that the courts, which have been getting into a state of increasing disrepair, would be in fact repaired by this summer in time for the tournament.

I met a couple of days ago with Julie, the new and very active General Manger of the Thousand Trails park. She guaranteed that the courts would be repaired and in fact would "all be resurfaced starting around June 1". Since the tournament is not until July 16-21 (it may run less days but that's currently what's set), June 1 or thereabouts is plenty early to get the repairs started. So at this point, although I'm not perfectly sure what "resurfacing" means and want to talk to Jim, her maintenance manager, about this next week, I believe it's safe to say that we will have courts to play on that are in good repair at least.

This brings up the real meat of this message. If you (or non-local friends of yours) DO wish to play in this tournament, and if you (or they) wish to reserve a site at the park for your RV during this period (you do NOT have to be a Thousand Trails member to stay at this park; you CAN stay as either a Thousand Trails member OR reserve a site through Encore (see http://www.rvonthego.com/Bend-Sunriver-campground-profile.html) for more information about reserving a site).

You or your non-local friends should RESERVE NOW, however! There is a huge GOOD SAM rallye going on a few miles away in Redmond, OR. during that same week, and Julie anticipates her sites will be completely full during that week, between normal destinaton traffic, pickleballers and the folks who do not want to stay in the dirt lot of the Deschutes Fairground in Redmond but do atend the Good Sam rallye. Consider this fair warning, please, and reserve now if you are going to so you aren't disappointed.
